Between 31 May and 1 June 2025, Girl Child Rights (GCR) took part in the official ceremonies welcoming the First Lady of Mozambique to the districts of Vanduzi and Macate, in Manica province.
Vanduzi: mobility for community leaders
The visit to Vanduzi district aimed to strengthen social support at district level, with emphasis on closer relations between the Government and local communities, in particular with regard to the mobility of community leaders. On this occasion, 614 bicycles were handed over to first-tier leaders in the province, to make it easier for them to travel and to work with the communities.
During the visit, the First Lady also visited families living in extreme vulnerability and announced a commitment to build decent housing and to directly support children at risk, as part of her commitment to inclusion and social protection.
Macate: International Children’s Day
On 1 June, in Macate district, the visit was dedicated to celebrating International Children’s Day. The day was marked by cultural dances, theatre and recreational activities, with the children themselves at the centre. The First Lady gave food baskets to around 500 families with children.
GCR’s participation
In both districts, GCR used the occasion to carry out awareness-raising activities on children’s rights, with emphasis on the prevention of early unions and other forms of child exploitation.
