On 10 October 2026, Girl Child Rights (GCR) joined the International Day of the Girl celebrations held at Escola Secundária de Tabaco, in the city of Chimoio. The theme of the celebrations was “End early unions and invest in girls’ rights”.
Who took part
The initiative brought together the DPGCAS, the SDJET, the school community, civil society organisations, girls, pupils and community members.
March, culture and awareness-raising
The programme included a march, cultural performances and awareness-raising moments. These activities promoted:
- girls’ rights;
- the prevention of early unions;
- information on how to report cases of gender-based violence (GBV) safely and confidentially.
GCR’s commitment
The message to the girls was that they should stay in school, know their rights and believe in their potential.
Two activities, the same theme
The celebration at Escola Secundária de Tabaco was part of GCR’s activities for the International Day of the Girl 2026. Two days earlier, on 8 October, GCR welcomed seven girls to its premises for a day of visiting the teams and discussing GBV and early unions, under the same theme.
