Girl Child Rights (GCR), in collaboration with Light for the World (LFTW) and with funding from the Austrian Cooperation, held a workshop under the InPower programme. The workshop took place from 17 to 19 October 2023 in Nhamatanda and aimed to promote positive male engagement to reduce cases of gender-based violence (GBV), involving partners from Nhamatanda, Búzi and Gorongosa.

Who took part

Over three days, the workshop brought together gender specialists, psychologists, social workers and community members, in a space for open discussion and for defining strategies to tackle GBV. The districts of Nhamatanda, Búzi and Gorongosa, in the Centre region of Mozambique, face significant challenges with regard to gender-based violence.

Men in GBV prevention

The focus of the workshop was to give men in the region the tools and knowledge to take part positively in GBV prevention. Participants discussed:

  • gender issues;
  • harmful stereotypes;
  • ways of promoting healthy and equal relationships;
  • the importance of psychological support for survivors of GBV;
  • how to respond effectively when cases of violence occur.

At the end, participants expressed their commitment to applying what they had learned in their lives and in their communities.
