Training of InPower partners on inclusive safe spaces
From 26 to 28 November 2025, in Beira, GCR and Light for the World trained 22 field technicians and community activists from InPower partner organisations on establishing and facilitating inclusive safe spaces.

Under the InPower project – Inclusive Empowerment of Women and Girls, Girl Child Rights (GCR), in partnership with Light for the World (LFTW), held the Training on Establishing and Facilitating Inclusive Safe Spaces in the city of Beira from 26 to 28 November 2025.
Who took part
The training brought together 22 field technicians and community activists from partner organisations implementing the InPower programme in Sofala province. Among them were partners from the Disability Inclusive Community Development (DICD) and Inclusive Education components.
Three days, three stages
The training programme followed the stages of setting up and running a safe space:
- Day 1 – Establishing safe spaces: community assessment, accessible infrastructure and team recruitment.
- Day 2 – Facilitating inclusive sessions: transformative facilitation techniques, gender sensitivity and adaptations for the inclusion of girls with disabilities.
- Day 3 – Community mobilisation: referral, monitoring and preparation of action plans.
Methodology and materials
The training used a participatory methodology: participants practised facilitation, received constructive feedback on their performance and worked with three products developed by GCR:
- the Practical Guide for Establishing Safe Spaces;
- the Manual for Facilitating Inclusive Sessions;
- a set of thematic leaflets.
Objective
The objective was to strengthen partners’ technical capacity to create, manage and facilitate inclusive and accessible safe spaces for all women and girls, with particular attention to those living with disabilities.
