On 5 June 2026, Girl Child Rights (GCR) attended the Dialogue of the Women of Manica Province with the President of the Republic of Mozambique, held in the auditorium of Universidade Púnguè, in Chimoio.

More than three thousand women in Chimoio

The meeting brought together more than three thousand women from all the districts of the province, as well as representatives of the Provincial Government, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations and development partners. The aim was to promote direct dialogue between Mozambican women and the Executive and to present the government fund created to facilitate access to financing and strengthen income-generating initiatives led by women.

Launched on 7 April 2026, this initiative recognises the role of women in the economy, in household management and in the development of their communities. The only requirement to benefit from the financing is to be a Mozambican woman.

Before a hall of thousands of women from across the province, the President of the Republic delivered a direct message:

“Investing in Mozambican women is investing in society.” — President of the Republic of Mozambique

The President reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue promoting policies that strengthen women’s participation in leadership positions and in decision-making processes.

The GCR tent

For GCR, being present at this meeting was an opportunity to make its work known to women from across the province. The organisation set up an exhibition tent with materials on gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection, including the link to health services.

During his visit to the organisations present, the President stopped at the GCR tent. Looking at the materials on GBV related to health services, he put a specific question to the team: are the GBV cases that reach GCR referred to health services?

The team explained that they are: referrals are made to health services and also to the other support services available, so as to ensure an integrated, survivor-centred response.

Recognition of joint work

The President listened to the explanations, thanked the team for the work done, congratulated them and encouraged continued coordination and joint work between the different sectors.
