UNHCR visits safe spaces and men's groups in Mueda
UNHCR's Deputy Representative for Protection and a Protection Officer visited GCR's areas of intervention in Mueda, where they followed activities in the safe spaces for women and girls and spoke with community groups of men and of women.

Girl Child Rights (GCR) received a visit in Mueda, in Cabo Delgado province, from UNHCR’s Deputy Representative for Protection and a Protection Officer from the same agency. The delegation toured GCR’s areas of intervention in the district.
In the safe spaces for women and girls
During the mission, the UNHCR delegation followed activities run by GCR in the Safe Spaces for Women and Girls and spoke with the participants.
The women highlighted the value of the safe space for their well-being, for access to information and for the emotional support they find there.
With the men’s and women’s groups
The delegation also met community groups of men and of women. The conversations focused on protection, positive masculinity, reproductive health and overcoming gender-based violence (GBV).
The men described concrete changes in behaviour since they began taking part in the sessions run by GCR. Work with men’s groups is part of GCR’s approach to GBV prevention.
What the visit showed
The visit allowed the UNHCR delegation to hear directly from the women and men who take part in the activities and to observe how the safe spaces and community groups in Mueda work.
