Our Story

Girl Child is a women-led Mozambican organization that works to defend the rights of adolescent girls and young women including those with disabilities and to protect them from all forms of gender-based violence, transform their lives through engagement to vibrant economic opportunities, and positive youth development. GCR endeavors to transform the way the world treats adolescent girls and young women.

Welcome to Girl Child Rights (GCR), the driving force behind innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions that prevent and respond to violence against adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Mozambique. As a passionate Mozambican Civil Society Organization (CSO), GCR is committed to empowering AGYW, including those with disabilities, and creating a safer and more equitable society. Based in Manica Province, in the heart of Mozambique, GCR extends its reach across Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Niassa, Sofala, and Tete Provinces.

Collaborating with the Mozambican government, local CSOs, international NGOs, UN agencies, academic institutions, and the private sector, GCR complements ongoing efforts to combat sexual and gender-based violence. Through our coordinated prevention and response strategies, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of women and girls.

At GCR, we prioritize gender-based and sexual violence prevention and response, remote and mobile GBV case management, women’s economic empowerment (WWE), and positive youth development (PYD). By focusing on women’s economic empowerment and promoting gender equality, we aim to foster a society where women can thrive. We empower youth to foster healthy gender norms and practices, driving sustainable social transformation.
