GCR Celebrates International Day of the Girl Child 2025 Under the Theme: “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of the Crisis”

Girl Child Rights (GCR) joins the world in commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, under the national theme “A Rapariga que sou, a mudança que lidero: raparigas na linha da frente da crise.”

Across Mozambique, GCR and its partners are leading community events in Tete, Cabo Delgado, Manica, and Sofala, spotlighting girls’ leadership, resilience, and determination to create change amid crisis and recovery.

Through coordinated field activities, mentorship sessions, leadership workshops, theatre performances, community dialogues, and the national release of a SKILLZ Success Story Clip, this celebration emphasizes GCR’s commitment to empowering adolescent girls and ensuring that their voices, dreams, and rights are recognized and respected.

Empowering Girls Through GCR’s Core Pillars

The celebration aligns with GCR’s five strategic pillars, which continue to shape its mission and actions across the country:

  • Education & Digital Literacy – Promoting equal access to education and technology for every girl to thrive in a changing world.
  • Health & Well-being – Encouraging comprehensive health education, including sexual and reproductive health, hygiene, and menstrual dignity.
  • Gender Equality & Protection – Strengthening community awareness to end gender-based violence, early marriage, and exploitation.
  • Leadership & Participation – Building girls’ confidence and capacity to lead in schools, communities, and national platforms.
  • Economic Empowerment – Supporting pathways for girls and young women to gain skills, economic independence, and sustainable livelihoods.

Voices of Change

At GCR’s event in Tete, girls from local schools will perform thematic dramas and testimonies reflecting the realities and aspirations of Mozambican girls.
In Cabo Delgado, mentorship and leadership workshops will highlight how safe spaces help girls regain confidence and become community leaders.
In Sofala, girls will take part in a public march and discussions advocating for education and equality.
Meanwhile, in Chimoio, Manica Province, GCR will host a community theatre performance and open dialogue, engaging youth, parents, and community leaders to promote positive masculinity, equal opportunities, and the protection of girls’ rights.
As part of national visibility actions, GCR will also launch a “SKILLZ Success Story Clip”, featuring inspiring stories of young girls whose lives have been transformed through GCR’s mentorship and education programs, supported by partners such as ExxonMobil Foundation and Grassroot Soccer
